AleDr. ALESSANDRO PETRUZZI

Alessandro Petruzzi is the President of NINE and current Head of the Plant Thermal-Hydraulics Area devoted to safety analysis and licensing of NPP.
Prior to join NINE, he worked over 9 years in the Nuclear Research Group of San Piero a Grado (GRNSPG) and he spent the year 2004 working as an intern-assistant in the Pennsylvania State University (USA).
He got his PhD Degree in “Nuclear and Industrial Safety” Course of the “Leonardo da Vinci” Doctoral Engineering School in 2008, discussing the thesis titled “Development and Application of Methodologies for Sensitivity Analysis and Uncertainty Evaluation of the Results of the Best Estimate System Codes applied in Nuclear Technology”.
The methods for uncertainty and sensitivity analysis applied to thermal-hydraulics system codes constitute his main interest as well as the assessment of computer codes and the development of sensitivity and uncertainty methods.
He is the founder and director of the seminar-courses 3D S.UN.COP (Scaling, Uncertainty and 3D COuPled Code Calculation), the NRSHOT (Nuclear Reactor Safety Hand-On Training) and MMARS (Models and Methods for Advanced Reactor Safety Analysis) which have been organized several times all around the world.

fulcioDr. FULVIO TERZUOLI

Fulvio Terzuoli is the Head of the Thermal Fluid Dynamic Experimentation Area and current Quality Management System Manager.
He worked over 7 years in the Nuclear Research Group of San Piero a Grado (GRNSPG) of the University of Pisa in international projects related to CFD applications to nuclear reactor safety and design, design of experimental facilities, code validation, training, etc. When NINE was established, he further extended his interests to containment analysis, nuclear fusion technology and decommissioning projects.
He received his PhD Degree in “Nuclear and Industrial Safety” at the “Leonardo da Vinci” Doctoral Engineering School in 2011, discussing the thesis titled “Role of CFD Analysis in Nuclear Reactor Licensing and Design”.
His fields of expertise include computational thermal fluid dynamics techniques applied to nuclear reactor safety for both licensing and design purposes, as well as the design and management of experimental investigations.
He is trainer and code instructor in training courses dealing with CFD and containment codes, addressed to the professionals of utilities, industries and research centers.

walterDr. WALTER GIANNOTTI

Walter Giannotti is currently the Head of the  Severe Accident and Radiological Consequences Area of NINE.
Before to be part of  NINE, he worked over 12 years in the Nuclear Research Group of San Piero a Grado (GRNSPG) and from 1996 to 2002 he was consultant for the University of Pisa for the thermal-hydraulic and severe accident analysis of NPP.
He got his PhD Degree in “Nuclear and Industrial Safety” at University of Pisa in 2000, discussing the thesis related to uncertainty of TH Codes applied to NPP accident analysis.

The SYS- TH codes and SA codes application constitute his main professional fields. In addition he is Qualified Expert for radioprotection  of 1st level (Italian qualification) and he is involved  in radioprotection activities related to safety and shielding and rad-waste treatment.
He has a large experience in conventional industrial activity mainly related to workers safety and machinery certification.

marcoDr. MARCO CHERUBINI

Marco Cherubini is the Vice-President of NINE and current Head of the Core Behavior Area devoted to prediction and analysis of NPP core by different disciplines viewpoint. Along his carrier he worked on the safety assessment of different reactor types including PHWR , VVER and RBMK.
Prior to join NINE, he worked over 7 years in the Nuclear Research Group of San Piero a Grado (GRNSPG) being responsible for System Thermal-Hydraulics simulations.
He got his PhD Degree in “Nuclear and Industrial Safety” Course of the “Leonardo da Vinci” Doctoral Engineering School in 2008, discussing a thesis dealing with Accident Management in VVER-1000.
Since 2013 Nuclear fuel behavior became his first priority topic of interest, though continuing its involvement in thermal hydraulics activities.
He is taking part at different International OECD-NEA and IAEA initiatives including code benchmarking, noticeably in nuclear fuel simulation, and contribution to several CSNI publications.
Scientific activities include authorship of papers published in international journals and presented in several conferences.

fabioDr. FABIO MORETTI

Fabio Moretti is a co-founder of NINE (2011), and Head of NINE’s 3D Fluid and Structural Mechanics area.
He is a Nuclear Engineer and got a PhD in Nuclear and Industrial Safety at the University of Pisa in 2009, with a thesis on “Contribution to the assessment of CFD codes for in-vessel flow investigation”
Prior to focusing on NINE, he has been collaborating with the University of Pisa – San Piero a Grado Nuclear Research Group (GRNSPG) since its foundation in 2003, taking part in many projects devoted to computer code validation, code application to nuclear safety analysis, design of test facilities, training, etc., being in charge of the coordination of the CFD area and of the management of specific projects.
He participates in the meetings of OECD/NEA/CSNI/WGAMA experts groups on “CFD application to nuclear reactor safety” since 2006 and contributes to their publications.
He is the Scientific Secretary of the International association “SILENCE - Significant Light & Heavy Water Reactor Thermal-Hydraulic Experiments Network for the Consistent Exploitation of the Data”
